Finishing off our basement last year convinced me that every weekend home renovation warrior needs a powerful circular saw. Unless your needs are light (to slice butter for instance), the $50 cheapie I first purchased won’t cut it. Upgrading to the pro-grade RIDGID 7.25” saw made a tremendous difference in cutting speed, accuracy and even safety.
If only I had waited a few months, when RIDGID introduced the compact and lighter weight 6.5” circular frame saw (model# R3203). Because it spins at a higher RPM, the 6.5” model is more powerful and smoother than its bigger brother, while still capable of cutting through the same size stock lumber. Yet its size and bantamweight makes it more manageable for amateurs. For a high end circular saw, the $119 price is a relative bargain.
If you’re contemplating any home renovations, run down to your local Home Depot and check one out. Maybe the new saw will serve as the impetus to start construction on that shed or pool house you’ve been contemplating for the last few years.
